Our Vision to Empower the Future:

My name is Sherita Flores. I am an author, a mother, and the founder of the Little Blossom Initiative. My life story is one of loss, healing, faith, and purpose.

I became a motherless child at the age of two when my mother passed away. Growing up without my mother shaped so much of who I am today. A mother is one of a child’s wings, and a father is the other. Those wings guide you, protect you, and help carry you through life.

In recent years, I also lost my father, which left me navigating life without either of my parents. That experience inspired me to write my book Unwinged: The Secret Price of an Unwinged Child, where I share the emotional reality of growing up without the covering that parents provide. Many people see strong adults, but they don’t always realize the child inside who had to learn how to navigate life without that protection.

My journey of healing opened my eyes to the many children around me who are growing up without affirmation, mentorship, or encouragement. While working at a nonprofit organization as a property manager, I began noticing young girls who were drawn to my femininity, my confidence, and the way I carried myself. They would compliment my dresses and the way I presented myself, and I realized something deeper many of them had never been told they were beautiful, capable, or worthy.

Some of these girls have never been exposed to the many opportunities that exist in the world around them. They may see beautiful things on television or the internet, but often they do not believe those things are attainable for them.

That realization inspired me to create the Little Blossom Initiative.

One of my earliest memories of feeling beautiful was going to church and wearing dresses. In those moments, I felt confident, encouraged, and seen. While beauty is not defined by clothing, those experiences helped shape my confidence as a young girl. I wanted to create moments like that for other girls moments where they feel proud of who they are and confident in their own identity.

Today, the Little Blossom Initiative is growing. We currently mentor and support a group of young girls and have already hosted community events designed to build confidence, connection, and joy. I am continuing to seek partnerships and community support so we can expand this mission and reach even more girls in our communities.

I believe that when a girl learns her worth early, it can change the entire trajectory of her life.
